This exercise is divided into three phases, and once you master these, you can accomplish the bow spinal Qi Gong. The first phase warms the spine up and loosens your nervous systems. By doing this, you can not only prepare yourself, but you can relax and use this when you’re feeling a bit tight in those areas. The second phase involves movement which teaches you to control your spinal energy. One such technique involves reverse breathing. Reverse breathing, for the lack of a better word, is the opposite of normal breathing. You expand your abdomen while exhaling through the nose, and then you breathe in through the mouth while compressing it. This allows energy to be absorbed into the tissues, and they can be used for future needs, such as healing purposes. The movements usually involve extending your arms, also called bending the bow and shooting the arrow. The third phase teaches you how to completely aware with all of the movements inside of your body. You will be able to detect imbalances, such as the alignment of both sides of your body, open and close your spinal vertebrae, regulate fluids that go to your brain and then your spine, and also determine the space between each spinal vertebrae. Doing this means that you can have complete control over how your spine functions. If you misalign your spine do to an accident or from age, you can simply snap it back to normal. If you are in pain, this can help to quell it and make it easier to tolerate.
